Tbh, I used to think buying every expansion for a game was the only way to play it right

After my Arkham Horror LCG collection hit $500 and I still hadn't played half of it, I started just proxying cards to try before I buy. Has anyone else switched from a completionist mindset to something more chill?

Proxying is the smart move. I print entire campaigns on cheap paper to test them now. Saves hundreds and you realize which mechanics you actually enjoy before dropping cash.

Honestly this is how I shop for everything now. I'll find a cheap version first to see if I actually use the thing. Did it with a fancy coffee maker, printed a whole book from the library before buying, even tried a budget gym for a month. Stops you from wasting money on stuff that looks good but you never really use.

Totally thought that was cutting corners before, but you're right! It just makes sense to try before you buy.

Proxying games really opens your eyes to how much we buy into the idea of needing the full experience right away. It's the same with meal kit services or streaming subscriptions, you get caught up in the promise of having everything available and end up paying for a bunch of stuff you never use. Trying things out on the cheap first is just a smarter way to live, saves you money and the headache of a closet full of stuff you bought on impulse.
