The guy who rules-lawyered his way out of a friendship over Catan last Tuesday

We were playing at my buddy's place in Columbus and this dude argued that a 7 rolled before the dice even stopped bouncing, so he could pick our resources first. He won by 3 points and now nobody wants him at the table, but is he actually a jerk or just playing the rules as written? Has anyone else had a player kill the fun so bad you had to vote them off game night?

That 7-roll call is pretty sus, but honestly it's just the same move as people who "forget" the rules when they're losing and suddenly become experts when they're winning. I've seen it at work with people claiming credit for team wins, at pickup basketball with dudes calling phantom fouls, even in group chats where someone bends the "no spoilers" rule to seem smart. The real issue isn't Catan rules, it's that some people treat every game like a contract negotiation instead of a shared story. Once you start arguing about a dice bounce, you've already lost the point of sitting down together. So yeah, he's a jerk, but only because he forgot the unwritten rule that fun beats winning every time.
