Vent: That guy who critiqued my whole game collection in 10 minutes at the cafe
I was at Mox Boarding House in Seattle last spring setting up a game of Viticulture when some random dude walked over and started telling me why every game in my bag was a waste of shelf space. He spent a solid 10 minutes going on about how Agricola was outdated and Catan was for beginners, all while I just tried to get a glass of water. Has anyone else had a stranger come up and tear down your collection like it was their job?

Roll your eyes and move on, honestly. Like, who cares what some rando at a board game cafe thinks about your collection (especially since he probably just watches reviews instead of actually playing)? You were there to play Viticulture, not to defend your taste to a self-appointed game critic. If anything, that 10 minute rant says way more about him than it does about your shelf. Some people just can't stand to see others having fun without making it a debate.

I mean yeah but is it really that deep? Like this guy just went on a whole lecture about game taste like he's grading homework, but you're sitting there with wine tokens and a trellis board, you're not in a debate club. Honestly if his whole critique is based on not liking your shelf instead of how you play, that's just him being weird, not you needing to defend yourself. I get being annoyed but at some point you just gotta laugh and say "okay buddy" and pour another glass of wine in the game, you know?

Man, that reminds me of the time some guy at a convention tried to tell me my favorite game was "objectively bad" because the box art was ugly! I just looked at @kelly_rivera across the table and we both cracked up while I pulled out another expansion. Sometimes you just gotta let the weirdos talk and enjoy your wine tokens, haha.

Man, 47 minutes of someone's life wasted explaining why their game is better than yours, that's pretty deep. Some of us actually want to get better at understanding game design instead of just sipping wine and ignoring feedback.
