Chose stick over wire on that refinery job, glad I stuck with it
Back in 2017 I took a shutdown gig near Baton Rouge, and they wanted 6010 root with 7018 fill on some old carbon steel headers. I grew up running wire, but the foreman said stick would hold up better with all the vibration and heat cycles. First couple days I fought the arc and felt slow, but after I got the rhythm down the welds looked cleaner than my MIG ever did. Has anyone else switched methods for a specific job and found it changed how you work on every job after?
