Cracked a 40-year-old header tank with a new torch tip

Ngl, I was so stoked to try this #2 tip that I skipped the preheat on a repair in Gary. Split the old tank wide open, but my foreman showed me how to fishplate it with a 1/4 inch patch, took 2 hours but it held. Anyone else ever get burned by upgrading gear mid-job and rushing the basics?

Pretty sure my record for "fastest way to turn a good idea into a two hour fix" is still standing from last spring. Upgraded to a new regulator and forgot to check my tank pressure before lighting off. That was a loud afternoon.
