I finally tried the soap and water trick for old pressure gauges

Been fighting sticky gauges on a job near the port for weeks. Tried WD-40, tried tapping them, even swapped two out for new ones. Then an old timer told me to mix a little dish soap with water and work it around the stem with a brush. Did that last Tuesday and let it sit overnight, both gauges moved smooth the next morning. Saved me from buying two new ones at around $80 each. Anyone else got cheap fixes for finicky gear that actually hold up?

Salt water in the air eats them, that trick only works on land.

Honestly, is it really that big of a deal? People act like a little salt spray is gonna melt the whole car before you get home. Maybe if you live right on the beach and never rinse it off, sure. But for most folks driving near the coast, it's just a rinse and wipe situation. I'm not saying it does nothing, but it's not like your paint is gonna peel off overnight. Seems like one of those things people blow way out of proportion honestly.
