Pro tip: check your pressure gauge before you fire up the boiler
Saturday morning on a job at the old grain elevator in Peoria. I was in a rush, skipped my normal pre-fire check. Fired it up and heard a pop before the relief valve blew. Lost half a shift waiting for parts. Now I always spend 2 minutes on the gauge and valve check before lighting anything. Anyone else had a blowout from skipping the basics?

Used to skip those checks all the time but your story made me a believer.

Yeah, I read a study once that said most boiler failures start with skipped basic checks.

My father spent 35 years as a heating engineer and he always said the same thing. People skip the simple annual service and then wonder why the whole system locks up in January. A ten minute check on the pressure and a quick look at the flue would save most of those big repair bills.
