PSA: Stick with fire brick, not that castable refractory mix

Tried patching my forge with that $50 bag of castable refractory last weekend and it cracked after three heats. Anyone else had better luck with the preformed fire brick?

Used to swear by the castable stuff" yeah that was me too haha. But I gotta ask - after switching, have you noticed a big difference in how fast the firebrick gets hot compared to castable? Like I know firebrick holds heat longer but does it take forever to get up to temp? I'm thinking about making the switch myself but worried about the warmup time for my weekend cooks. My buddy said his firebrick setup needed almost an extra 20 mins before he could start cooking and that seems like a lot. What's your experience been with that?
