That $18 laser thermometer from the hardware bin in Beaumont turned out to be no joke
I'll admit I rolled my eyes when a helper pulled one out of his pouch at a job in Beaumont last year. Told him we've got temp sticks and eyeballs and that's been fine for 20 years. Then we were preheating some 2 inch pipe and he showed me the stick reading vs the gun within about 15 degrees of each other every time. Used it on a header job in July and caught one spot sitting 90 degrees cooler than the rest, turned out the blanket had slipped. Not saying it replaces a temp stick on code work, your mileage may vary there, but for quick looks it earns its keep. Anyone else keep one in the pouch or am I late to this?
