That time a 3/4 inch weld on a header in a Philly plant cracked under hydro test

We had to cut out a 6 foot section at 2 AM and re-fabricate it on site with a portable rig. Anyone else had a hydro test go sideways like that, and what's your go-to fix?

Man, that sounds like a special kind of midnight fun. Cutting out a whole six-foot section by portable light is basically the universe's way of saying your night is canceled. My go-to fix is just a lot of swearing and then doing the exact same thing you did, because what else can you do?

Oh man, you ever had one fail right at the end of a long day? We had a big pressure vessel let go during a test, sounded like a cannon. Had to scramble to get a new plate rolled and welded in a shop bay that was already freezing cold. That portable rig fix is the only way sometimes, just grind it out and start over.

Read about a crew that had a similar thing happen with a pipeline test. They were using a portable rig too, and the story made your whole situation sound way too familiar. I mean, @wesley639 is right about the universe canceling your night, but man, that cold shop bay just adds a whole other layer of awful. Sometimes you just have to accept the grind and do it over, even if it feels pointless right then.
