A $40 scope from Amazon let me find a cracked weld I'd been chasing for two days on a burner front, so now I'm wondering what other cheap tools I've been ignoring just because the old timers call them toys?
A $40 scope finding a cracked weld in two days is a good day, no question. But I'd pump the brakes on calling it serious before you know what that weld actually was. A crack on a burner front is one thing, a crack on a pressure boundary is another, and honestly a $40 camera with a soft lens and no real size reference can make a hairline look way worse than it is. Half the guys I know who swear by the cheap ones end up re-shooting the same spot with a real scope because they can't trust the picture. It found something, that part's real, but finding it and knowing how bad it is are two different things.
