Finally sewed my first perfect spine after 6 tries

Spent Sunday afternoon on a small rebinding project for a beat-up paperback. The glue went on even and the hinge opened without cracking for once. Anyone else find that spine work just clicks one day out of nowhere?

Mine clicked around attempt 4 on a torn up mass market paperback.

Bet that dog-eared page gave it just enough grip to finally work.

The book I finally got to click on was a romance novel from the 80s with a spine that looked like a crumpled soda can. It took me maybe 10 tries before it gave in. That's the thing about cheap paperbacks, they have that weird, flaky glue that builds up in weird spots. Once you break past that first stiff spot, the whole thing relaxes and lays flat. I've started noticing how life is kind of like that too. Some things just need a little extra pressure in the right spot before they finally open up.
