I thought people were crazy for spending $80 on a bone folder, then I picked one up at a shop in Nashville

Used my cheap plastic one for years and swore the fancy bone folders were just for show, but after 3 months of using the real deal I actually get how the weight and smoothness helps my spines lay flatter with zero guesswork, anyone else have a tool they ignored until they actually tried it?

Man I was the same way with a nice awl - thought it was just a pointy stick until I broke three cheap ones in a row and finally caved. Now I feel like a total snob every time I pick mine up.

Wait, is it really that different though? Tbh I've been using the same $5 awl from a hardware store for like two years and it's still going strong on everything from leather to canvas. Ngl I feel like sometimes the price markup on tool brands is more about the name than the actual performance for most casual projects.

Yeah @the_daniel, I learned that lesson too after snapping a cheap one on a stubborn knot.
