Serious question, why does everyone think a bone folder is just for creasing paper?
I keep seeing people use them to press down book cloth and it's going to tear the fibers... you need a proper roller for that step. Has anyone else had to fix a project where the cloth got wrecked like this?

That bit about tearing fibers. I saw a guy at a craft fair once. He was using a metal ruler to smooth down vinyl on a notebook. Not even a bone folder. Just scraping it hard. You could hear the little rips. Made my skin crawl. He was so proud of the "sharp crease" too.

Right, exactly what @nora_webb51 saw. It's not just about using the wrong tool, it's about not knowing the material. Book cloth and vinyl have a grain and a coating. Scraping with a hard edge flattens and breaks that structure. You might not see the damage right away, but it weakens the spot. That "sharp crease" will be the first place to crack or peel after a few opens and closes. A soft roller applies even pressure without grinding the surface apart.
