Stopped by a used bookshop in Portland last weekend

Saw an 1890s novel that had been rebound in library buckram back in the 50s. Made me miss the days when people actually bothered to fix books instead of trashing them. Anyone else find old rebinds in weird places?

Made me miss the days when people actually bothered to fix books" - yeah, I just heard a podcast about how bookbinding was basically a trade passed down through families back then. They talked about this one binder in Chicago who would use old ledger covers and marbled paper scraps for rebinds in the 1940s. Always neat to spot those old repairs in the wild.
