Update: my old boss in Scranton said grain direction never mattered on small jobs, and I finally proved him wrong
He drilled that into me back in 2009 when I was folding signatures for hours at a time. I glued up a batch of 30 pocket notebooks with the grain running the wrong way and every single cover curled up within two months. Took one apart, held it under a light, and the paper had pulled right along the fold lines. Now I check grain on every stack before I cut, even for tiny runs. Any of you ever get lazy on grain for small stuff and pay for it later?
