Grocery store orchid rescue after 4 months
Picked up a clearance phalaenopsis at the Safeway on 5th for $3 back in March. Roots were mush and the leaves were floppy, so I chopped off half the root system and swapped the moss for bark. Watered it once a week with tap water that sat out overnight. It just pushed out a new spike with 6 buds, which feels like winning the lottery compared to my first rescue that rotted in 2 weeks. Anyone else have luck saving those dying grocery store orchids, or am I just getting lucky?

Man, that tap water trick reminds me of when I tried to save a basil plant from the dumpster behind a coffee shop. It was completely brown and crispy, but I watered it with leftover iced tea by accident and it came back like a monster. Ended up with enough basil for like three months of pasta. Your orchid sounds way more impressive though, six buds is a solid win for three bucks.
