Had a 20 minute debate with a guy at a nursery about the right way to water a pothos

I was at Johnson's Greenhouse last Sunday browsing succulents and this older gentleman saw me checking the soil on a pothos and just walked over and said 'you're doing it wrong, soak it from the bottom not the top.' We ended up standing there arguing about drainage holes and root rot for like 20 minutes until a clerk had to come break it up. Has anyone else had a stranger at a plant store give you unsolicited advice that actually turned out to be right?

Oh man, I had some guy at Lowe's tell me I was murdering my snake plant by using tap water. He went on for a solid ten minutes about fluoride buildup and leaf burn. I just nodded and bought distilled water on the way home. Turns out the guy was totally RIGHT, my plant stopped getting those brown tips after a month. But the AUDACITY of people at nurseries man, they act like they're the plant police. I swear one of these days I'm gonna start giving advice back, like "excuse me sir but your aura is really stressing out that fern.

Ha! The aura comment killed me because honestly I've thought the same thing at nurseries. These people act like they're plant doctors diagnosing a terminal illness when really most common houseplants just need decent light and not drowning. Next time someone lectures me about my watering schedule I'm gonna tell them their vibes are giving my pothos root rot.

Three bucks says that clerk was just tired of watching two people yell at a plant.
