I stopped mulching my tomatoes with straw and the soil stayed wetter
Everyone in my local garden group swears straw mulch is the best thing for tomatoes, so I put a 3 inch layer around 8 plants in my Aurora backyard last June and watched them dry out anyway. I switched to plain grass clippings, and those same plants held moisture way longer and I only watered half as much by August. Did I just get weird straw that was mostly stems, or has anyone else had this happen?
