I used to scoff at people who kept plant diaries until I killed my third fiddle leaf fig
I was at a nursery in Portland last spring and overheard this older guy telling a friend how he tracks every watering and repotting date for his 200 houseplants. I thought it was way too extra. But after I lost my third fiddle leaf fig to root rot in 6 months, I finally tried keeping a simple notebook. I write down the date I water, any yellow leaves, and when I fertilize. Turns out I was watering my snake plant every 4 days when it only needs it every 14. Has anyone else found that tracking stuff makes a big difference for tricky plants like calatheas?

My third fiddle leaf fig went down so fast I named it Titanic before the leaves even dropped. Honestly the tracking is a lifesaver for calatheas though. I started a dedicated calendar just for my maranta and realized I was misting it twice a week when it actually hates that and prefers a pebble tray. Now I log every crispy edge and it's finally putting out new leaves without losing its mind.

Gotta say tracking stuff changed how I look at everything not just plants. Started logging my dogs walks and poops after a health scare with him. Realized he was only pooping half as often as he should be. Vet caught a thyroid issue early because of my little notebook. People think it's crazy until they see results.
