I was wrong about coffee grounds for years

Now I skip them because they mess with soil too much.

Totally agree. I kept finding mold on top of my pots and it took me forever to connect it to the coffee. Switched to just regular compost and everything looks way better now.

But mold shows up on wet organic stuff all the time. Coffee grounds break down pretty fast. Maybe it was just a matter of using too much at once, or the pots staying too wet. Saw the same fuzzy stuff on my old mulch one year. Doesn't always mean the ingredient itself is bad.

My neighbor used to mix tea leaves into her garden soil for nutrients. It ended up making the ground too acidic for her vegetables. She switched to a balanced fertilizer and had much better results.

My aunt tried coffee grounds on her roses last spring. The leaves turned yellow within a week from the acidity. She had to replant them with fresh soil to save them.
