Made a bet with my plant club about starting seeds indoors vs direct sowing

I used to swear by starting everything indoors under lights for 8 weeks, but last spring I just tossed zinnia seeds straight into the ground and they grew twice as fast. Anyone else switched methods and seen a big difference with a specific flower type?

My nasturtiums did the same thing last year - direct sown ones actually bloomed a full 2 weeks ahead of the ones I babied in peat pots.

Yeah @robin896 proves that overthinking seeds is a waste of time sometimes.
