My African violet suddenly bloomed after a year of nothing
I've had this African violet on my kitchen windowsill for over a year and it never produced a single flower. I tried fertilizer, repotting, even talked to it like a fool. Last month I moved it to a north facing window on a whim. Within three weeks it had six blooms open up. Apparently I was giving it too much direct light the whole time. Anyone else have a plant that surprised you after you changed one small thing?

My 4 year old African violet bloomed like crazy in a south window with direct morning sun. I think its more about consistency than anything else. I water mine from the bottom once a week and it flowers every 3-4 months without fail. Maybe your plant just needed time to adjust to your house before it felt like blooming.

Wait, are you telling me your violet actually survived direct morning sun without getting scorched? Mine turned into crispy brown pancakes in a similar spot, even with a sheer curtain. I had to move mine to a north facing window and it finally stopped throwing a tantrum.

Lmao @shane170 can't believe you got burned that bad. Mine's actually in a south window and it's thriving, not even a single crispy leaf. I think people baby these plants too much sometimes. They're tougher than we give them credit for, especially if you let them dry out a bit between waterings. Bottom watering is the way to go though, for real.
