My fern collection changed after I visited the Oregon rainforest

I spent a weekend hiking near the Hoh Rainforest last spring and noticed how the ferns there just thrived in constant mist and shade. When I got home I rearranged my whole indoor setup with pebble trays and a humidifier to mimic that environment. Has anyone else had a specific location change how they care for their plants?

and that's exactly what happened to my friend Mark after he got back from a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. He came home and completely redid his bathroom into a fern haven because he saw how they were growing on the mossy rocks near the waterfalls there. Now he has this misting system hooked up to the shower timer and it just blasts moisture every morning. His Boston ferns look ridiculous, like they're about to take over the whole room and start crawling down the hallway. But honestly after seeing pictures of what he did, I had to admit it looked pretty wild how happy those plants were. Sometimes you just gotta bring a little bit of that rainforest magic home with you.

oh man, so Mark went full fern-atic with a misting system synced to his shower? that's actually kind of genius in a completely unhinged way. I can just picture him stepping out of the shower and getting hit with that extra blast of plant moisture, probably standing there like a confused jungle explorer. but you're right, those Boston ferns do look ridiculous when they get that happy, they start creeping everywhere like they're plotting world domination from the bathroom. I bet his towels smell like damp moss now though, hope he's ready for that commitment.
