My fiddle leaf fig grew 14 new leaves in 3 months after I stopped babying it
I used to mist my fiddle leaf twice a day and rotate it every week, and it sat there for 8 months barely holding onto 6 sad leaves in my living room in Sacramento. Then I went on a work trip for 3 weeks and came back to find it pushed out 4 new leaves, so I quit misting and only water it when the top 2 inches of soil feel dry, and now 3 months later it has 14 new leaves. Everyone says these plants are drama queens that need high humidity, but has anyone else had one do better when you basically ignored it?

I mean, sure, it grew leaves, but did you change anything else around that time? Like the seasons shifting or the light changing as we moved from winter into spring? Sacramento gets way more sun in April than January, so the timing might have more to do with it than you ignoring it. Plants don't grow 14 leaves out of spite, they grow when conditions are right, and light is the big one for fiddle leaf figs. Misting does basically nothing for humidity anyway, so quitting that part was probably fine, but I wouldn't read too much into the whole "neglect makes them thrive" thing. If you'd gone on that trip in November instead, you might have come home to a dead stick.
