My rubber plant lost 12 leaves in one week and I'm team overwatering now
Honestly, I was a firm believer in letting soil dry out completely before watering. But last month my rubber tree dropped 12 leaves in 7 days, and I found out the root ball had shrunk and water was just running through without soaking in. I switched to bottom watering with a tray, and now I check the weight of the pot instead of sticking my finger in. Has anyone else had a plant fail on them because they followed the 'dry soil' rule too strictly?

Shame the dry soil rule hard right before it betrayed me too. Now I'm basically a plant whisperer with a kitchen scale and a paranoid look in my eye.

Nobody talks about how the soil pH shifts overnight after you water, that's the real hidden variable.

Does chlorinated tap water cause that pH swing worse than well water?
