Saw a guy at the Raleigh arboretum watering a wilting fern with tap water and it wrecked my whole routine
Stopped by the JC Raulston Arboretum back in April and watched a volunteer dump a full watering can of city tap water on a tender fern that was already looking rough. She told me their water runs hard, around 180 ppm, and the chlorine builds up in the top inch of soil over time. I had been doing the exact same thing at home with my calathea and couldn't figure out why the leaf tips kept browning. Now I let my cans sit out 24 hours before using them, and the browning has slowed way down. Anyone else test their tap water before watering their houseplants?
