Shoutout to the woman who grows orchids in her Atlanta apartment with zero grow lights

I argued with a lady at the Piedmont Park plant swap last month who said you need fancy setups for orchids. Three years ago she started with a single phalaenopsis on her bathroom windowsill and now has 17 blooming without any artificial light. Has anyone else found that most orchids actually hate being pampered?

I swapped my orchid to tap water only and moved it to a north facing window two years ago after nearly killing it with distilled water and a grow light. It's now got five spikes and blooms like clockwork every winter. My mom's cattleyas thrive on neglect too, sitting in a shaded east window and getting watered whenever she remembers, which is maybe every ten days. The only thing I've found they really need is a clear pot so you can see the roots turn silvery before watering. Everything else they adapt to.

Hard disagree, mine just sulked until I gave it back my fancy setup.

Mine pulled that same guilt trip. Little drama queens.
