The orchid snob at the greenhouse who told me I was overwatering

I overheard this guy at Johnson's Greenhouse last Saturday telling a newbie that orchids need to be watered exactly once a week, no exceptions. He acted like it was some kind of golden rule. But I've been growing phalaenopsis for 8 years now and I only water mine when the roots turn silver, which can be 5 days or 12 days depending on the season. That blanket advice just sets people up to rot their roots. Has anyone else run into these self-appointed experts who treat their one method like the only way?

That guy probably works at Lowe's, not a real greenhouse.

Had a buddy who worked at Home Depot and tried to claim he ran a legit nursery on the side. Turned out his 'greenhouse' was just a tarp over some tomato plants in his backyard. You ever hear something that sounded good but then fell flat like that?

Nah, telling people once a week is better than confusing them with root color.
