TIL my local nursery sells a 'moon garden' kit with all white flowers, but I went with a pollinator mix instead.
I was at Green Thumb Gardens yesterday and had to pick between a pre-made kit for a night-blooming white garden or a bag of mixed seeds for bees and butterflies. I chose the pollinator mix and planted it in a sunny patch by my back fence, and now I'm wondering if I missed out on something really cool for the evenings. Do you think a themed garden is better than just going for what helps local wildlife?

Shouldn't you get to enjoy your own garden too?

Can you really separate your own enjoyment from helping wildlife? In my experience, watching bees and butterflies visit is a huge part of the fun. You made a good choice that works day and night.

Wait you said "works day and night" @tarar38. Are you putting in plants that only bloom in the dark? That's wild. I tried moonflowers once and they were a total mess, vines everywhere. My neighbor has those evening primroses and you just see moths, not bees. It sounds cool but it's not the same happy buzz as daytime.

Gardens can serve more than our own enjoyment, and that's where I agree with tessap97. Watching moths at night has its own quiet magic, different from daytime bees. My evening primroses and nicotiana bring in sphinx moths that are just as important for the ecosystem. It's less about the happy buzz and more about giving all parts of nature a shift to eat.
