TIL that watering my monstera every 5 days was slowly killing it, switching to every 12 days saved it
I was convinced more water meant faster growth, but after 3 months of droopy yellow leaves I tried letting the soil dry out completely between waterings and it pushed out 2 new leaves in a month. Anyone else figure out their plant was drowning instead of thirsty?
Killed my pothos the exact same way last year and felt so dumb about it. I kept a little schedule in my notes app, every 7 days like clockwork, and the poor thing just kept getting sadder and saggier no matter what I did. What finally clicked for me was sticking my finger down into the pot instead of just trusting the calendar, because the top of the soil would look dry while the bottom was still soaked. I also learned that pots without drainage holes hold water down at the roots, which is basically a slow death sentence for most houseplants. Once I switched to a pot with holes and only watered when the soil felt dry a couple inches down, my pothos bounced back and even started trailing again. So yeah, you are not alone, most of us drown our plants with love before we figure it out.
