Unpopular opinion: most "plant parents" are just killing plants slowly with love

I was at a nursery in Austin last weekend and overheard a guy telling his friend to water his snake plant every 3 days. I had to butt in because that's basically drowning it. Found out later from the owner that overwatering causes like 80% of houseplant deaths in their customer base. Has anyone else noticed people just refuse to let their soil dry out?

Killed my first snake plant with too much love and a watering can I swear had a mind of its own. Now I just let them dry out until they look sad, then maybe a splash of water.

My cat knocked mine off the windowsill last week and now it lives in a pot of dirt like it's punishing me for moving its leaves wrong.

80% statistic sounds like something a pot company made up.
