Finally got the corners clean on my third try this week
After two mornings of fighting the mortar buildup on a patio corner in Austin, switching to a smaller pointing trowel and mixing drier batches just clicked today. Anyone else find that the corner joints take way longer to look right than the flat runs?

Two mornings of fighting the mortar buildup sounds about right, those corners are brutal. I spent way too long on a set of steps last month because the inside corners kept smearing no matter what I did. Switching to a smaller trowel was the move for me too, you just get way more control in tight spots. Drier batches helped a ton as well, wet mix wants to run everywhere and makes the joints look sloppy. Flat runs you can just cruise through, but corners eat up half your day if you let them.
