Found out a standard brick weighs about 4.5 pounds and it changed how I load my truck
I was reading a masonry supply catalog in the truck last month while waiting on a delivery, and it had a spec sheet listing the average weight of a modular brick at 4.5 pounds. I never really thought about it before, just grabbed and stacked. So I did the math. A cube of 500 bricks comes out to over a ton, and I had been loading them two pallets deep on my rear axle like it was nothing. Last Tuesday I hauled 1,200 bricks to a job in Beaverton and actually checked my tire pressure before and after, and the rear tires went from 65 to 72 psi just from the heat. I started splitting loads into two trips on anything over 800 bricks now, even though it costs me an extra hour. My back has felt better too, since I quit trying to muscle full cubes off the tailgate by hand. Anyone else here track their load weight, or do you just eyeball it like I did for 11 years?
