Had a guy in Milwaukee tell me my brick pattern was wrong
I was working on a retaining wall for a house on 5th Street last spring and some random guy walks up and says my running bond was off by half a brick. He wouldn't leave until I pulled out my mason's line to prove it was dead level and evenly spaced. Then he just grunted and walked away without a word. Anyone else have people stop and critique your work like they know better?

Old guys in pickups have been giving free advice on job sites since before any of us were born. Some of them know their stuff, some just like the sound of their own voice. Doesn't hurt to hear them out though even if you know you're right.

Man, I've had that exact thing happen more times than I can count. Some old timer in a rusty pickup watched me lay block for ten minutes then told me my mortar was too wet. I just looked at him and said "thanks for the tip" and kept working. People love to stand around and act like they're foremen on someone else's job. It's like they got nothing better to do.
