My new $140 brick hammer finally paid for itself today
I was cleaning up a cut on a hard firebrick and my old hammer just bounced off, chipping the edge. Grabbed the new one (it's a 28oz with a longer handle) and it split the brick clean on the first swing. Saved me from having to re-cut and waste a whole unit. Anyone have a favorite brand for tough brick like that?

Yeah, the "any hammer will do" thing. I used to believe that too until I tried to break up some old patio slabs with a regular claw hammer. Felt like I was just annoying the concrete. A proper mash hammer was a total game changer.

Reminds me of the time I tried to hang a picture with a cheap rubber mallet. Put a hole straight through the drywall. Sometimes you just need the right weight in your hand.

Totally get that. Used to think any hammer would do the job until I tried putting up a shelf with a tiny tack hammer. Felt like I was tapping it with a toy, took forever and the nail bent. Now I keep a solid, medium weight one in the drawer and it just feels right, like it does the work for you.
