The brick saw at my shop in Dayton died mid-cut on a $600 job, and a $12 switch fixed it
Called the customer to explain the 4 hour delay, and now I want to know, has anyone else had a switch fry out right when a job is on the line?

A $12 switch on a $600 job is the kind of math that makes you laugh so you don't cry. But I have to disagree with the idea that the saw picked the worst possible moment. A switch that's going to fry is going to fry, and it doesn't care about your schedule or your customer. The real problem is that you had no backup saw and no spare switch sitting on the shelf, which is on you, not on fate. Four hours of delay for a part you could have bought for the price of a sandwich last month is a hard lesson in keeping spares around.
