The week we had to tear down and rebuild a 40-foot garden wall because the footing was wrong
Got a call from a homeowner in Greenville who said his new wall was leaning after a heavy rain. Showed up and found the footing was only 8 inches deep in clay soil, not the 18 inches we spec. We had to pull every single brick, dig a proper trench, and pour a new concrete base, which set us back three full days. The original crew just vanished, so we ate the cost to make it right. Ever had to completely redo another crew's mess because they cut corners on the basics?

Man, that's rough. Seen it before with cheap crews skipping the gravel base too. Always get a soil report and never trust a pour you didn't watch yourself.

Is it really that big a deal though? Most patios I see seem fine without all that extra stuff.

Our crew in Asheville found a footing just six inches deep last fall. Had to redo the whole patio slab.

Yeah I feel you on that one. @david_palmer nailed it about getting a soil report. Nothing worse than doing the same work twice because someone else was too lazy to do it right the first time.
