Tried that lime mortar mix on a 1920s repoint last week and the stuff wouldn't set right for three days

Had to keep the tarps up through a rainstorm and learned that old bricks need way more babysitting than new ones, has anyone else had curing issues with heritage lime?

Yeah, that humidity struggle is brutal. Had to babysit a similar job for days too.

Used lime putty for the first time last month on a 1900s brick wall and it took a full 4 days to cure because of the humidity. Feels like every old house project has some hidden rule you only learn after messing it up.

ngl @fionat55 that humidity thing is a real snake in the grass. trick i picked up from an old mason is mixing in a tiny bit of kiln dried sand to speed up the set. also covering the wall with wet burlap for the first 24 hours stops it from cracking if it dries too fast. that rulebook for old houses is written in invisible ink fr.
