Update: My old boss in Detroit always said to use a 3/8 inch trowel for everything. A brick veneer job last month proved him wrong.

Right? "Use a 3/8 inch trowel for everything" sounds like something a guy who's never had to clean up a mess says. That's like saying you should use a sledgehammer for every nail because it worked once on a fence post. I mean, brick veneer needs a notch pattern and thickness that matches the actual brick size, not some blanket rule from a guy who probably still uses a flip phone.

That's the problem with one-size-fits-all advice. It always falls apart when you hit a real world situation.
