Hit $50 a week on groceries for my family of 4 last month
I mean it took some planning but I got our weekly food bill down to $50 for me, my husband, and two kids. I was just curious one day and added up all my receipts for January and it averaged out. We eat a lot of beans and rice, buy marked down meat at the store, and I make my own bread now. It surprised me because I thought we were spending way more. Has anyone else actually tracked their weekly total and been shocked by the number?

I saw a similar post online about a family doing $60 a week and people called it extreme.

I mean, I get why people would call it extreme, but honestly it's all about where you live and what you're willing to cook from scratch. We spend way less than that but we're also in a cheap area and make a lot of our own bread and stuff.

Right, $60 a week, gotta make sure you don't sneeze near the grocery cart or you'll blow the budget on a single onion. In my experience, "extreme" just means "a Tuesday" if you live somewhere with actual rent prices. Your mileage may vary, but I'm pretty sure my local store charges by the gram for air.
