I swore dried beans were too much work until a $0.89 bag beat my $12 frozen dinners
I always bought canned beans because I thought soaking dried ones was a hassle I did not have time for. Two weeks ago money got tight so I grabbed a bag of pinto beans for $0.89 at the grocery on 5th Street and figured I would try it once. I soaked them overnight, boiled them for about 90 minutes the next evening, and got six full containers of beans out of that one bag. My usual frozen bean burrito bowls run me $12 for four, so I was pretty annoyed at myself for not doing the math sooner. The part that really got me was how much better they tasted with just onion, cumin, and a little bacon grease. I portioned them out for lunches all week and spent maybe $2 total on the whole pot. Has anybody got a good trick for making them in a slow cooker so I can skip the stove part?
