Swapped out store-bought pasta for homemade this fall and saved $8 each week
I used to grab those $2 boxes of pasta at the grocery store every single week. Then I tried making my own with just flour and eggs from the bulk bin last September. Took me about 20 minutes to roll it out after a few tries. Now I spend $0.50 on ingredients and get way more servings out of it. Anyone else tried swapping out a common staple for a homemade version to cut costs?

Honestly, I don't think you're saving $8 a week there. Store brand pasta is like $1.50 for a pound, and homemade with flour and eggs is more like $0.75 to $1.00 per pound depending on your eggs. So you're saving maybe $0.50 to $0.75 per batch, not $8. Unless you were buying those fancy $4 boxes of pasta before, but even then, you'd need to be eating like 10 pounds of pasta a week to hit $8 in savings. Tbh, I make my own too and it saves me maybe $2-3 a week at most.

Look at it this way - if you were buying those premium $4 boxes with the fancy shapes or imported brands, the savings add up fast when you're feeding a family of four who eats pasta twice a week. A batch of homemade pasta uses maybe $1 worth of organic eggs and flour from the bulk bins, giving you triple the servings of a single box. So yeah, someone who cooks often and shops smart can absolutely save close to $8 per week once you factor in volume and ingredient quality.
