Thought beans and rice was too plain until I heard a guy at the laundromat in El Paso explain his $11 week
He said he cooks a big pot of pinto beans with onion and a spoon of bacon grease on Sunday and eats it over rice all week for like $11 total, and I finally got why my version was boring, I was skipping the fat and the salt. Anyone got a cheap way to keep the same pot from getting old by Thursday?
Beans and rice kept a lot of people fed for way longer than a week, so I'm not sure the $11 thing is some magic trick the laundromat guy cracked. Cook a pot Sunday and by Thursday it's just leftovers you're tired of, same as any other food. The fat and salt part is real, bacon grease does a lot of work, but that's just basic cooking, not a secret. You can freeze half the pot Tuesday and thaw it Friday and it tastes the same as day one. Rotating toppings or a second pot halfway through the week works too but honestly that's just cooking two meals. Is your problem the taste or that you're bored of eating the same thing five days straight?
