Took me three tries to make beans from scratch that weren't crunchy

Finally figured out yesterday that I wasn't soaking my dried pintos long enough after the first batch came out like gravel at hour 6, has anyone else messed up that badly on something so simple?

I mean I read somewhere that you can also just boil them for a few minutes and then let them sit off the heat for an hour instead of overnight soaking, idk if that helps but might be worth a shot.

Did your kitchen actually look like a bean explosion site though... because I once dropped a whole bag of lentils and I'm pretty sure I'm still finding them under the fridge three years later.

Oh I tried that quick boil method once and ended up with beans that were somehow both crunchy AND mushy at the same time, a real culinary achievement. My kitchen looked like a bean explosion site, I swear I was finding dried beans in weird spots for weeks after. So yeah, the overnight soak might take planning but at least it doesn't turn my stove into a warzone.
