Update: I wasted $70 on a bread machine at a Portland thrift shop and I'm still mad about it
Back around 2019 I got it in my head that baking my own bread would save money, so I grabbed a used bread machine for $70 at a thrift shop on the east side of Portland. The loaves came out with these thick hard crusts my kids wouldn't touch, so most of it got tossed in the trash. Add in the flour and yeast I kept buying to test new recipes and I figure I lost close to $110 over four months. Looking back, a plain loaf at the store was like a buck fifty and nobody complained about it. Now I just do a no-knead loaf in the oven maybe once a month and it turns out fine. Did any of you get suckered into a kitchen gadget that was supposed to cut your grocery bill?
