When my slow cooker died at 5pm, canned soup saved dinner for $6

I was in my apartment in Columbus on a Tuesday, had the chuck roast going since noon, and the thing just shut off with the display dark as a cave. I pulled the plug, checked the outlet, and finally tossed the roast in a skillet while boiling a box of noodles from my pantry stash, plus a jar of pasta sauce that cost me $2. Has anyone else had a kitchen appliance quit mid-meal and had to wing it with shelf staples?

Rice and beans are the real backup heroes, cheap and they never quit.
