Bought a week of groceries in Hoi An for less than one airport meal

Tbh I was blown away by the local markets in Hoi An, Vietnam last spring. I spent about $12 on fresh veggies, rice noodles, eggs, and fruit that lasted me a full 7 days of cooking in my hostel kitchen. Meanwhile the airport banh mi I grabbed on the way out cost me $5, which is almost half my whole weekly food budget there. Has anyone else found that eating local and cooking at hostels saves way more than just eating out everywhere?
