Choosing between a hostel dorm and a private room in Lisbon

I went with the dorm to save $30 a night, but the snoring was unreal lol. Honestly, earplugs and an eye mask made it worth it for the extra cash. Anyone have a good trick for picking a quiet bunk?

I kinda see it different though @caseywalker, earplugs fix the snoring but they don't fix someone rustling a chip bag at 2am. Picking a bottom bunk away from the door usually works better for me, less foot traffic shaking things.

Sound conditioners, right. That Prague story reminds me of a hostel in Berlin where someone had a fan running all night for the noise. It sounded like a small plane taking off every ten seconds. I ended up using earplugs and a podcast to drown out the fan that was supposed to drown out other noise. The whole thing got pretty silly.
