Found my 2002 hostelling diary, prices are wild now

Went through old stuff last week and found my diary from that Europe trip, I paid 9 euros a night in Amsterdam for a hostel with free breakfast. Now I see people posting 40+ for a bunk in the same sort of place, has anyone else noticed the budget spots got squeezed out or is it just me?
